Heartland Trail Riders CouncilHEARTLAND TRAIL RIDERS (HTRC.org) is a place where you can hook up with other riders in the region for rides PLUS a forum for us to unite in the battle to retain our riding areas and trails and to promote safe enjoyable recreational OHV riding.

ATV ClubFor clubs:  There are larger issues facing ATVing/4wheeling that we hope to stem the tides of our dwindling ride areas.  This can only be accomplish by being involved in an Organization or Club, where ALL members have a vote in issues facing us united with national organizations and other coalitions.  This site serves all individuals, clubs, and organizations that are in the 8 state region mapped below.  At current count there are no less than 80 clubs in this region and all of us use the pretty much the same ride areas and trails.  We propose an alliance of these organizations to save our trails.

Each organized club in the region, which is a HTRC member, has a representative voted onto the HTRC board of directors by that club.  The board of directors consist of men and women who are concerned about the future of off road riding in the region, and are willing to donate their time and effort to help make a difference.

Other than HTRC membership there are no requirements to be a Board member.  You just have to have your club nominate you.  This board of directors votes on the HTRC officers each year.  We plan to have our first annual meeting at the 2003 United States ATV Jamboree in Greeneville, TN where HTRC officers will be appointed.  All officer positions in HTRC are purely voluntary, without compensation.

Any HTRC member is welcome to be involved.  Although members may be from different states, we have a common goal.  And there is a clear benefit for all members to be involved and aware of issues in neighboring states.  For more info, sign up for the newsletter or become a charter member and talk it over with members of your club.

ATV KittyFor individuals: You might ask, "Do I have to do the work, I just want to ride?"  Well, in a word, no.  But being a part of a strong organization has many duties.  From picking up trash on the trail that maybe you didn't put there, to attending National meetings, or taking safety courses.  Or just spreading the word that we aren't just a bunch of fence cutting, property vandalizing outlaws.  Anything to promote the sport in numbers that get positive public attention.  We care about our ecology and natural resources too.  For more info, sign up for the newsletter or become a charter member.

Simply getting together for impromptu rides is surely the bottom line in assembling a group.  But by banding together as an organization we will be able to attain NEW riding areas, stem the tide of trails being lost and just plain do the RIGHT thing.

Bottom Line: So we invite anyone interested in preserving our rights as OHVers to join us here.  ONLY if we band together will we be able to effect change for the positive.  Only if everyone does their part are we able to continue to have legal ride areas and trails.

DID YOU KNOW???  The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provided $50 million to the States through the Recreational Trails Program for 2003.  Mouse over your state on the map to see your share!  How are you spending your money???

Tens of thousands of these Federal dollars are either going unused or are being earmarked for other trails (hiking, horse trails...etc). The Heartland Trail Riders Council is working to make sure the motorized vehicle trail share of these funds goes to maintenance, building and acquisition of new MOTORIZED trails. Join us
